The browser was released by Netscape in 1994 as the Mosaic Netscape 0.9 , and in 1998 the open-source code of the browser was published, which would soon become the project Mozilla. Company AOL , Buy in 1999 Netscape and develop it to version 9.0 , Last published in June 2007.
Starting with February 1 2008 , Netscape (AOL) announced the demise of developing / updating browser Navigator 9 and other previously released versions (Netscape v1-v4.x, v6 Netscape, Netscape v7 Suite, Netscape Browser v8, Netscape Navigator / Messenger 9). AOL recommends users to upgrade to Netscape Mozilla Firefox , which basically represents the basis of Netscape Navigator. (many plugins / add-ons for Firefox are compatible on Netscape).
