Shortly after the launch of the new devices: Apple Watch Series 3, iPhone 8, 8 iPhone Plus, iPhone X, the new ones AirPods cu wireless charging and of AirPower, Apple has turned its attention to the application iTunes for MacOS.
Recent update of iTunes to the 12.7 version has brought some substantial changes, primarily aimed at reorganizing the content of the application.
In the new version, the owners Poppy and iPhone, iPod or iPad will no longer have access from iTunes to applications and games iOS. App Store has been withdrawn from the iTunes application, so there will be no way to access macOS on iOS games and applications. Additionally, the iTunes iOS application synchronization and ringtones are removed.
It is not clear what will happen next in the launch MacOS High Sierra si iOS 11, operating systems to be launched at a distance of almost a week from each other. Apple is likely to come back to this decision and create a way to make it easier to access applications and games on Mac or Windows PCs.
The new iTunes is media-oriented. Music, movies, TV shows, podcasts and audiobooks are the content that can be further synchronized between iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and a Mac or Windows PC. Games and apps can be downloaded very simply from the new App Store that will be present on iOS 11. In a much modified version of what we currently have on iOS 10.
Other changes made by Apple in iTunes 12.7
- Content from iTunes U was moved to Podcasts on iTunes.
- Internet Radio: The option now appears in the Music Library on the left sidebar of iTunes.
- Ringtones: We are no longer available in iTunes, ringtone will be reloaded directly on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the new version of iOS 11.
- Books: Those who have downloaded books on Windows PC through iTunes will have a problem. Especially if they no longer own iPhone or iPad. Books will only be reloaded through a iOS device.
The new iTunes focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks. Apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch are now available exclusively in the new App Store for iOS. And the new App Store makes it easy to get, update, and redownload apps-all without a Mac or PC.
As a user of both Mac and iPhone / iPad, I can say that this change does not affect me at all. However, I did not see a plausible reason why I would have downloaded and implicitly occupied the space on my Mac hard drive with apps and games on iOS. As long as they can be accessed and re-uploaded anytime via the iOS App Store, this iTunes (unusual) change is welcome.
“Ringtones: We are no longer available in iTunes, ringtone will be reloaded directly on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the new version of iOS 11. ”
This refers strictly to ringtones purchased through iTunes Store / iTunes. The ones transferred from your PC / Mac to your iPhone / iPad / iPod are still available on iTunes. You can add new ones, delete them or make changes.
