Windows 11 Build 27686. Sandbox Client Preview and other news.

Microsoft development team a Windows 11 is back to work after the holiday break and released a new version Windows 11, Build 27686 (Canary Channel), with some rather interesting novelties and features, including for Windows Sandbox Client.

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27686 introduces battery life optimizations, advanced features for Windows Sandbox and settings tweaks for more intuitive control. In addition, this version also includes a number of fixes for issues reported in previous versions.

Windows Sandbox Client Preview

One of the most interesting features introduced is Windows Sandbox Client Preview, which now receives updates via Microsoft Store. This version includes: dynamic clipboard redirection at runtime, audio/video control for input, and the ability to share folders with the host at runtime.

These options are accessible via the new “…” settings access button at the top of the app. Experimental command line support has also been introduced. For more information, you can use the command wsb.exe –help.

Changes and improvements in Build 27686

This version brings some general optimizations. Some features previously introduced in the Canary channel may disappear temporarily as new versions of the 27xxx series are released. These will gradually return in future versions.

An important aspect is the battery life optimization, which will have the effect of extending battery life on devices running Build 27686+. Microsoft encourages users to report any battery-related issues through the Feedback Hub.

Build 27686 also introduces new new settings for VHD/VHDx. Added a dedicated button for detaching virtual disks (VHD/VHDx) in the section: Settings > System > Storage > Disk & Volumes > Msft Virtual Disk.

New tweaks for HDR displays are also introduced. On devices with HDR displays, users can now enable HDR video streaming even if the main HDR option is disabled.

This new option can be activated from: Settings > System > Display > HDR.

Background feedback

To evaluate future network performance optimizations, devices enrolled in the Canary channel can periodically run network tests in the background. These tests use a minimal amount of data (up to 10MB/day) and run only on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connections not marked as traffic capped.

Extended FAT32 limit

When formatting disks using the command line format command, the maximum size for FAT32 has been increased from 32GB to 2TB.

Important fixes

In this new version there are also some fixes for some problems present on previous versions:

Dev Drive: Issues with automatic remounting of VHDs have been resolved.

Lock screen: The synchronization of the battery icon with the actual battery level has been adjusted.

Windows Security: Fixed incorrect display of network icons in the app Windows Security.

Settings: Fixing various bugs such as missing button space or improper display of power mode options.

Known issues in Build 27686

If you switch to the Canary channel on a new Copilot+ PC from the Dev channel, Release Preview or retail, you will lose the ability to use Windows Hello PIN and biometric features to log in. This is accompanied by the error 0xd0000225 and the message "Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available". To solve the problem, you can recreate the PIN by clicking on the option: “Set up my PIN".

An issue preventing the utility from opening is also being investigated in this release dfrgui.exe (Defrag and Optimize Drives). When trying to open the application, an error appears with the message that the file SXSHARED_UCRT.dll is missing.

In conclusion, this new version brings imported changes, but do not forget that some new features and features of the versions Windows 11 Insider Preview published on Canary, may not be present in the final version.

We do not recommend the use of computers dedicated to productivity, education or entertainment for enrollment in the programs Windows 11 Insider Preview. These versions may contain critical bugs that may require reinstallation of the operating system and in some cases may result in loss of stored data
